Malnutrition in Haiti
Malnutrition is becoming a major problem in the south of Haiti since the earthquake and life has become very precarious. With no roof to sleep under, some make do with sheets on pieces of tin roof as make-do covering there is more sickness and signs of malnutrition among children and the old. There is a lack of fresh produce due to the landslides, erosion and heavy rains after the earthquake.
Often red hair among children is the first sign of malnutrition.
ORE has always made nutrition a high priority. Eliassaint Magloire is actively rebuilding our stock of Quality Protein Maize (QPM) so that all the food distributed to school children and those in need will consist of full protein, highly nutritious fare.
